media paper 2 Flashcards
In Andrew Goodwin’s theory, what are the characteristics that are present in the making of a successful music video?
Star image, intertextuality, notions of looking, sound and vision
As stated by Andre Goodwin’s theory, what are the different kinds of relationships featured in music videos between the visual imagery and the lyrics?
- Disjuncture (the video and the lyrics have no correlation to each other)
- Contradict (the visuals of the video contradict with the song lyrics)
- Illustrate (visuals have some literal representation of the lyrics)
- Amplify (repetition of key meaning to manipulate audiences)
In Andrew Goodwin’s theory, what is meant by ‘Notions of Looking’?
‘Voyeurism’ is when the viewer is watching the video/performer for personal pleasure; this is often the case with female pop stars who perform sexual dance routines to cater to a wider audience.
The other element of this is when the music video contains things such as mirrors, TV screens and cameras etc: these all reinforce the idea of watching and looking.
