Cross-platform marketing
A text which is distributed and exhibited across a range of media platforms. Film, television and radio for example
Demographic category
A group of which consumers are placed in according to their age, income, sex and profession. These categories are from A to E with A and B being the wealthiest and most influential.
Gate keepers
The people responsible for deciding the most appropriate stories to appear in newspapers
Iconography
Props, objects, costumes and background which are associated with the particular genre.
Media language
The specific parts of a media product that communicate meaning to audiences: technical codes, visual codes, audio codes
Splash
The story on the front of the newspaper which is given the most prominence
Uses and Gratification theory
Active audiences seek out and use different media texts in order to satisfy a need and different pleasures
Aspirational
A text that encourages audiences to want more money, up-market consumer products and higher social position
Brand Identity
The associations a person makes with the brand reinforced by their advertising campaigns and placements.
Cultural Capital
The media tastes and preferences of the audience, traditionally linked to social class and background
