The idea that the increasing power of global media corporations, together with the rise of convergent media technologies and transformations in production, distribution and marketing of digital media have placed traditional approaches to regulation at risk and the idea that there is a struggle between producers and regulators.

  • Children are less protected due to the fact that it is hard to regulate
  • Easy to access due to convergent technology
  • For example watching films that are above your age

  • The idea that cultural industry companies try to minimise risk and maximise audiences through vertical and horizontal integration, and by formatting their cultural products (e.g. through the use of stars, genres, and serials).
  • The idea that the largest companies or conglomerates operate across a number of different companies.
  • The idea that the radical potential of the internet has been contained by its incorporation into a large profit-oriented set of cultural industries

A

Concept 1: Violent behaviours are learnt through modelling
Direct experience individuals learn or replicate aggressive acts as a result of their own experiences
Modelled learning learned by watching the behaviour of others

Concept 2: Audiences copy media modelling
Attentional process. The effectiveness of a modelled behaviour depends on how focused the attention is.
Role models and social learning. You are swayed by the people you are watching
Retention processes if the behaviour is especially vivid it will be retained longer
