2 types of coaxial cable
RG-6: used my local cable companies. thick version
RG-59: used for cable tv or satellite tv
Twin-axial cable
Short range, fast speed, up to 10Gbps
2 types of coaxial connectors
BNC: used in military (old)
F type: screw on type connector, most common type
Serial cable
Also known as RS-232. Terminated with DB-9 or DB-25 connectors
Twisted pair
More twist in each pair -> less EMI -> less retransmission -> faster speed
2 types of twisted pair
UTP: most popular
STP: shielded in each pair and a metal foil inside plastic jacket covering all pairs -> decrease EMI between them pairs and from the outside too
RJ
Registered Jack. Used to carry voice or data which specified the standards a decide needs to meet to connect to the phone or data network
Two types of RJ connectors
RJ45: 8 pins -> used 4 -> Ethernet
RJ11: 6 pins -> used 2 -> DSL Model or VOIP phone or a phone line

Theoretical measure of how much data could be transferred
