Q

How can you read the results of a CT scan?

A
  • You have to look at the colors white, gray and black
  • Each color represents a distinct part of your body: soft tissues, fat and bone
  • A change in color in a specific area of your body might indicate the presence of an abnormality.

9
Q

How can you read the results of PET scans?

A
  • Doctors look at PET scan pictures to find areas where the body’s metabolism might be abnormal, shown by high SUV numbers
  • They compare these findings with other tests and your medical history to figure out what’s going on and decide what to do next.

Q

What are X-rays used for?

A
  • used in order to figure out the issue inside the patient’s body, without having to physically/ surgically open the patient
  • most commonly used in order to see the injuries to a bone

Q

How do you read a X-ray film?

A

Black on the film = air or less dense tissue
White on the film = bone and metal (bones appear brighter)
Gray on the film = fat, water, soft tissues
Dark grey sports that are brighter than rest of area = Masses like cancer or pneumonia

Q

How do ultrasounds work?

A
  • Ultrasounds use echolocation: high frequency sound waves and the echoes
  • he machine uses a probe to transmit high frequency sound waves into your body, the sound waves travel through your body and hit a boundary between the tissue, which are then displayed on a screen

Q

What are ultrasounds used for?

A
  • An ultrasound produces an image of a person’s internal body structure
  • study the growth and development of a baby in the womb
  • screening for disease or conditions that may affect the internal parts of the body

Q

How can you read the results of a ultrasound?

A

comparing it to a healthy/normal person’s image. Things they may look for include:
the shape , size, and placement of the organs
the shape and size of blood vessel
swelling or fluid build up

Q

How does Angiogram work?

A

Angiography is a type of X-ray used to check blood vessels. Blood vessels do not show clearly on a normal X-ray, so a special dye called a contrast agent needs to be injected into your blood first.

17
Q

What are Angiogram used for?

A

Angiography is used to check the health of your blood vessels and how blood flows through them.

18
Q

How can you read the results of a Angiogram?

A

Your provider may tell you that you don’t have anything blocking your blood vessels and your heart’s getting enough blood.
Abnormal results
- Something may be blocking your coronary artery or arteries
- Your provider can tell you which arteries have a block in them and where, as well as how bad they are.

19
Q

How do ECG work?

A
  • you need to lie still for a few minutes
  • During this time electrodes attached to various parts of the chest, arms, and legs which will record electrical activity that is created by your heart beats.
20
Q

What are ECG used for?

A

An ECG test can help diagnose certain heart conditions such as abnormal heart rhythms and coronary heart disease by measuring the heart’s rhythm.

21
Q

How can you read the results of a ECG?

A

Measure the distance between the R Waves (big spikes) to see if the rhythm is regular or irregular.

22
Q

How does fluoroscopy work?

A

A live video of continuous x-rays that pass through the body part then displayed on a monitor

23
Q

What are fluoroscopy used for?

A

Diagnosing a health concern like heart or intestinal disease
Looking inside organs, joints, muscles, and bones
Guiding treatments like injections, implants, or orthopedic surgeries

24
Q

How can you read the results of fluoroscopy?

A

On a Tv-like monitor that displays a live video x-ray

25
Q

How does colonoscopy work?

A

you will be seated on a table while the doctor inserts a colonoscopy through your anus and into your rectum and colon area

26
Q

What are colonoscopy used for?

A

A colonoscopy is an exam used to look for changes such as swollen, irritated tissues, polyps or cancer in the large intestine (colon) and rectum

27
Q

How can you read the results of colonoscopy?

A

Your colonoscopy result is considered positive if the doctor finds a polyp or an abnormal tissue in your colon. On the other hand, a negative result means that the doctor does not find any abnormalities

28
Q

How does Upper Endoscopy work?

A

Upper endoscopy involves a thin, flexible tube with a camera and light source being inserted through the mouth to visually examine the upper gastrointestinal tract, including the esophagus, stomach, and upper part of the small intestine.

29
Q

What are Upper Endoscopy used for?

A

Upper endoscopy is used for diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the upper gastrointestinal tract, including the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.

30
Q

How can you read the results of Upper Endoscopy?

A

The results of an upper endoscopy are typically interpreted based on visual inspection of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum for abnormalities such as inflammation, ulcers, or tumors.

31
Q

Q
How does Urine Analysis work?

A
  • It usually involves three steps: Assessment of the color, cloudiness and concentration of the urine
  • Examination of the chemical composition of the urine using a test strip
  • Examination of the urine under a microscope to look for bacteria, cells and parts of cells
32
Q

What are Urine Analysis used for?

A

It’s used to detect and manage a wide range of disorders, such as urinary tract infections, kidney disease and diabetes

33
Q

How can you read the results of Urine Analysis?

A

The strip has fields that change color when urine is tested. After testing, compare these colors to a table on the package to determine normal or abnormal values.
