Q

Beta-blocker propranolol

A

  • hold for bradycardia or decreased CO
  • be cautious with heart failure patients
16
Q

DDAVP (desmopressin)

A
  • antidiuretic
  • increases water permeability in renal tubular cells which decreases volume and increases concentration
  • headache, GI upset, flushing of the face
  • used to treat diabetes insipidus
17
Q

Silver sulfadiazine 1% (Silvadene) water soluble cream

A
  • bacterial agent for gram +/-, yeast, candida albicans, minimal eschar penetration
  • apply 1/16th layer of cream with a clean glove 1-3 times daily
  • anticipate formation of pseudo eschar which can be removed
18
Q

Mafenide acetate 5-10% solution (Sulfamylon) hydrophilic based solution or cream

A
  • antimicrobial agent for gram +/- organisms, diffuses through eschar
  • apply 2 times daily with a clean glove as prescribed
  • may cause metabolic acidosis
  • application may cause considerable pain initially
19
Q

Silver nitrate 0.5% aqueous solution

A
  • effective against most strains of staph, pseudomonas and gram +/-
  • does not penetrate eschar
  • apply solution to gauze dressing and place over wound
  • keep dressing wet but cover with dry gauze and dry blankets to decrease vaporization
  • monitor Na and K
  • stains everything it touches
