Mechanics Laws Flashcards
What is Newton’s first law of motion?
A body continues in a state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless it is acted upon by an external force.
What does Newton’s law of gravitation state?
Force between two particles is proportional to their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
What is Newton’s second law of motion?
The rate of change of momentum is equal to force OR force acting on a body is equal to the product of its mass and acceleration.
What is Newton’s third law of motion?
To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The action and reaction act on two different bodies simultaneously.
The Law of Conservation of Energy
Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, but it can be transformed or transferred into other energy forms
Inertia
The property of matter that causes it to resist any change in its state of rest or of uniform motion
Impulse
Change in momentum caused by an external force
Hooke’s Law
The restored force is proportional to the extension up to the limit of proportionality
