Mechanics Flashcards
Force
anything that can cause an object to accelerate
Mass
the mass of an object is a measure of how difficult it is to move that object
OR
the mass of an object os a measure of its inertia
acceleration
the rate of change of the velocity of an object with respect to time
velocity
the rate of change of displacement with relation to time
displacement
the straight line distance between two points
Newton’s first law of motion
Newton’s First law of motion states that every object will remain in a state of rest or travelling with a constant velocity unless an external force acts upon it
Newton’s second law of motion
Newton’s second law of motion states that the rate of change of an object’s momentum is directly proportional to the force which caused it, and takes place in the opposite direction of the force.
Newton’s third law of motion
Newton’s third Law of motion states that when body A exerts a force on body B, B exerts a force that is equal in magnitude but opposite in direction.
Speed
the rate of change of distance with respect to time
acceleration due to gravity
9.81 m/s^2
