Mechanics Flashcards
SUVAT formula including v, u, t and a
(v-u)/t = a
SUVAT formula including u, v, t and a
((U+v)/2) x t = s
SUVAT formula including v, u, a and s
v^2 = u^2 + 2as
SUVAT formula including s, u, a and t
s = ut + (at^2)/2
SUVAT formula including v, t, a and s
vt - (at^2)/2 = s
What happens to frictional forces acting on a car when it brakes?
The force due to air resistance would reduce. If the skid causes the tires to heat up the coefficient of friction is likely to vary
What happens to the motion of a car when it brakes?
If it skids it will not be travelling in a straight line so equations of motion do not apply and other forces need to be considered
State how you have used the modelling assumption that the string is inextensible
Acceleration of car and trailer are equal
State how you have used the modelling assumption that the string is light
Ignore the weight of string in any calculations
State how you have used the modelling assumption that the pulley is smooth
Magnitude of tension in string is the same either side of pulley
