Mechanics Flashcards
State Newton’s first law
An object will remain in its state of rest of motion at constant velocity unless acted upon by a unbalanced net force
State Newton’s second law
When a net force acts upon an object the object will accelerate in the direction of the force. The acceleration is directly proportional to the force and inversely proportional to the mass of the object
State Newton’s third law
When object A exerts and force on object B, object B will exert a force equal in magnitude but in the opposite direction
State the work energy theorem?
The net work done on an object is equal to the change in the object’s kinetic energy
What is a conservative force?
A force for which the work done is path independent
What is a non conservative force?
A force for which work done is path dependent
What is power ?
The rate at which work is done
What is the principle of the conservation of mechanical energy?
The total mechanical energy in an isolated system remains constant
What is a projectile?
It is an object upon which the only force acting is gravitational force
