Mechanics Flashcards
What is displacement?
Displacement is the shortest route between two points
What is position?
Position describes location relative to a fixed point
What is speed?
Speed is the distance travelled over a period of time
What is velocity?
Velocity is total displacement over a period of time
What does it mean if there is straight, horizontal line in a displacement time graph?
No change in the displacement time graph means the object is stationary
What does it mean when there is a straight, diagonal line in a displacement time graph?
Displacement increases at a constant rate when velocity is constant
What does it mean when there is a curved line in a displacement time graph?
Displacement changes at a changing rate over time. Velocity is accelerating
What is the equation for average velocity?
Total Displacement///Total Time
What is the equation for average speed?
Total Distance///Total Time
What is the SUVAT equation without ‘s’?
v = u + at
What is the SUVAT equation without ‘v’?
s = ut + 1/2(at2)
What is the SUVAT equation without ‘t’?
v2 = u2 + 2as
What is the SUVAT equation without ‘a’?
s = 1/2(v+u)t
What is the SUVAT equation without ‘u’?
s = vt - 1/2(at2)
What is the value for acceleration in mechanics maths?
9.8m/s2
