Force and Newton’s Laws Flashcards
What is thrust?
Thrust is the force that prevents 2 objects from coming together
What is tension?
Tension is the force that prevents 2 objects from moving away from each other
What is weight?
Weight always acts vertically downwards; it measures the size of the pull of gravity on an object
What is resistance?
Resistance is a force that opposes the motion of a particle
What is friction?
Friction is the resistance that one surface or object encounters when moving over another
What is reaction?
Reaction is when 2 objects come into contact and each exert a force on the other. Direction is perpendicular to surface of contact
What is equilibrium?
Equilibrium is the state of rest or moving with a constant velocity; resultant force must be 0
What does Newton’s 1st Law state?
The 1st law states that an object at constant velocity will remain at constant velocity unless unbalanced forces are acted upon the object
