MODE: Assist-control (AC)

  1. Description
  2. Target Population:
  3. Nursing Care:
A

Mode: Assist-control (AC)

  1. Description: TV is set, Rate in response to pt effort. IF no effort pt gets a breath
  2. Target Polpulation: Patients able to breath with WEAK respiratory muscles
  3. Nursing Care: Assess and monitor for hyperventilate result respiratory alkalosis

•preset rate and tidal volume or pressure

SIMV ( Synchronized intermittent Mandatory Ven

MODE: SIMV ( Synchronized intermittent Mandatory Ventilation

  1. Description:
  2. Target Population:
  3. Nursing Care:
A

Mode: SIMV ( Synchronized intermittent Mandatory Ventilation

  1. TV is delivered at a low set rate in response to patient effort, allow spontaneous resp in between
  2. Patients who cannot sustain spontaneous resp for extended periods
  3. Useful as weaning. Increased work of breathing.

•SIMV: preset rate and TV but for patient initiated breaths TV depends on patient. Breaths are synchronized to decrease competition between the vent and patient

Continuous positive airway pressure

MODE: Continuous positive airway pressure

  1. Description:
  2. Target Population:
  3. Nursing Care
A

CPaP: Continuous positive airway pressure

  1. Applies positive pressure during spontaneous breaths
  2. Effective as a wearing trial or training mode
  3. Assess pt for respiratory distress
