MECHANICAL VENTILATION: MODES Flashcards
1
Q
Controlled Mandatory Vent
MODE: Controlled Mandatory Vent
- Description
- Target Population
- NURSING CARE
A
MODE: Controlled Mandatory Vent
- DESCRIPTION: TV and rate is set
- Target Population: Apneic, No respiratory drive
- Nursing Care: Must be SEDATED and or PARALYZED used for long transport
2
Q
Mode: Assist-control (AC)
MODE: Assist-control (AC)
- Description
- Target Population:
- Nursing Care:
A
Mode: Assist-control (AC)
- Description: TV is set, Rate in response to pt effort. IF no effort pt gets a breath
- Target Polpulation: Patients able to breath with WEAK respiratory muscles
- Nursing Care: Assess and monitor for hyperventilate result respiratory alkalosis
•preset rate and tidal volume or pressure
3
Q
SIMV ( Synchronized intermittent Mandatory Ven
MODE: SIMV ( Synchronized intermittent Mandatory Ventilation
- Description:
- Target Population:
- Nursing Care:
A
Mode: SIMV ( Synchronized intermittent Mandatory Ventilation
- TV is delivered at a low set rate in response to patient effort, allow spontaneous resp in between
- Patients who cannot sustain spontaneous resp for extended periods
- Useful as weaning. Increased work of breathing.
•SIMV: preset rate and TV but for patient initiated breaths TV depends on patient. Breaths are synchronized to decrease competition between the vent and patient
4
Q
Continuous positive airway pressure
MODE: Continuous positive airway pressure
- Description:
- Target Population:
- Nursing Care
A
CPaP: Continuous positive airway pressure
- Applies positive pressure during spontaneous breaths
- Effective as a wearing trial or training mode
- Assess pt for respiratory distress
