Q

which has more elasticity steel or rubber?

A

Steel has more elsaticity as the tendency to regain the original form is more of steel than rubber but up to a certain limit. This limit is called elastic limit. If we apply force more than the elastic limit, the body loses its property to come back to its orginial form.

Q

what are plastics?

A

if we apply force to a lump of putty or mud, they have no gross tendency to regain their previous shape and they get permanently deformed. such substances are called plastics. This property is called plasticity

Q

when a body is under stress? can it be in equilibrium

A

yes it can be euilibrium as whenforces are aplied on a body in such a way that the body is still in static equilibrium, it is deformed to a small or large extent depending upon the nature of the material and the magnitude of the deforming force

Q

when forces are applied on a body in such a way that the body is still under static equillibrium, deformation of body depends upon?

A

when forces are applied on a body in such a way that they body is still in static equilibrium, the deformation of body can be small or big depending upon the nature of the material and the magnitude of the deforming force.

Q

why is strain dimensionless ?

A

Q

Hooke’s Law

A

for small deformations, the stress and strain are proportional to each other. This is known as Hooke’s law
