Mecha T Flashcards
a hand tool made of heat-treated steel, with the cutting end shaped variously, for chipping metal when it is struck by a hammer.
Chisel
a clamping device, usually consisting of two jaws that close with a screw or a lever, that is commonly attachable to a workbench
Vises
to strike objects, delivering an impact to a small area
Hammer
a hand tool used to cut through materials like metal, plastic, and wood
Hacksaw
a tool used to shape materials, by wearing away some of it.
File
also known as cut off, involves cutting a piece off a part that is being turned.
Parting off
a turning operation where grooves are made on the surface of a workpiece.
Grooving
removes a small amount of material from an existing hole to improve its dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
Reaming
also known as a turning machine, is the central equipment in the turning process.
Lathe Machine
is a device used to hold the workpiece in place while it rotates.
Chuck
used when working on the surface finish of a workpiece.
Face Milling
the cutting tool is placed parallel to the workpiece. Therefore, the sides of the cutting tool grind against the work surface instead of the tool tip.
Peripheral Milling
is used when machining vertical surfaces or vertically inclined surfaces.
Profile Milling
utilizes computer programs to control the cutting tool’s motion.
CNC Milling
the cutting tool rotates in the feed direction. This is the opposite of conventional milling operations, where the cutting tool rotates opposite the feed direction.
