How do you measure the speed of sound in the air?

1. Use a stopwatch, Something to measure distance e.g. trundle wheel. 2 blocks of wood.
2. Measure the time by seeing when the blocks touch each other and record the time it takes to hear the sound from that point.
3. Take multiple readings and find the average

Calculate the speed using V = D/T

How can you measure the speed of sound using a wall?

Answer 2

1. Measure the distance from you and the wall
2. Get 2 blocks of wood and a timer.
3. When you hit the block of wood, start the timer, The sound will travel away, when it comes back (Echo). do it 10 times then Stop the timer.
4. Calculate the speed using S = D/T But double the distance since it travelled to the wall and back and times it by 10 since it was done 10 times.
