Measuring Climate Change Flashcards
What is Causation?
A direction from cause to effect establishing that a change in one variable produces a change in another
What is a Correlation?
It gives an indication of whether 2 variables move together
What is a Spurious Correlation?
A strong linear association between 2 variables that does not result from any direct relationship, but instead may be due to coincidence or to another unseen factor
What is a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG)?
A set of nodes and arrows with no directed cycles and its a complete set of all causal relationships. The nodes represent variables and the arrows represent causal effects
What is Confounding?
When the treatment and the outcomes have a common cause which creates a spurious correlation
What is a Collider?
A variable which is causally influenced by 2 or more variables
