Measures of Central Tendancy Flashcards
What is a and MEAN how to you calculate the mean?
The mean is the average of a data set.
Organize the data from least to greatest; add all the numbers; divide the SUM by the amount of numbers in the data set.
What is the MEDIAN and how is it calculated.
The median is the middle number in a data set.
Order the data from the least to the greatest; find the middle numbers; add the numbers; divide by 2.
What is MODE and how do you calculate it?
The mode is the number that repeats the most in a set of data.
Order the data from least to greatest; find the number that repeats the most. note: you can have more than one mode if two or more numbers repeat the same amount of times.
What is a RANGE and how do you calculate it?
A range is the difference between the largest and smallest number in a data set.
Order the numbers from least to greatest; subtract the smallest number from the largest number.
What is an outlier?
An outlier is a number in a set of data that is significantly different than the other numbers.
What three numbers are called MEASURES OF CENTRAL TENDANCY?
MEAN, MEDIAN, MODE
What is a STEM AND LEAF PLOT?
A stem-and-leaf plot is a way to display data. Each number in the data is split into its “stem” part and “leaf” part. You can find the RANGE, MEDIAN and MODE of the data from a stem-and-leaf.
