Customary system
The units of measurement most often used in the United States.These include foot, pound, and quart.
Length
Measurement of the distance between two points.
Convert
To change one unit to another.
Weight
A measurement that tells how heavy an object is.
Capacity
The amount of a container can hold.
Customary units of length
There are 12 inches in a foot, 36 inches equals 1 foot, there are 3 feet in a yard, there are 1,760 yards equals 1 mile, there are 5,280 feet in a mile.
Customary units of weight
There are 16 oz in a pound, there are 2,000 pounds in a ton.
Customary unit of capacity
There are four quarts in a gallon, there are two pints in a quart, there are two cups in a pint, there are eight fluid oz in a cup.
Metric units of mass
1000 milligrams= 1 gram
1,000 grams = 1 kilogram
Metric units of length
10 millimeters= 1 centimeter
100 centimeters = 1 meter
1,000 meters = 1 kilometer
Metric system
The decimal system of measurement. Includes units such as meter, gram, and liter.
Metric units of capacity
1,000 millimeters = 1 liter
Fair share
An amount divided equally.
Line plot
A graph that uses columns of x’s above a number line to show frequency of data.
