Opisometre
An opisometre can be used to measure short curved lines for example a road or a river in a map
Measuring length
A metre stick or ruler measures straight lines
Trundle wheel
Used to measure long curved lengths for example around a flower bed
Vernier callipers
To find the diameter or width of a solid object for example marble or a piece of piping
Area
Area is how much space something covers and it’s length x width
Mass
Mass is the amount so matter in an object and it is measured in the lab using an electronic balance
Volume
Volume tells you how much space something takes up. Length x width x height
Volume of an irregular object
Using a graduated cylinder and/or an overflow can
Float
An object will float in a liquid if it is less dense than the liquid and will sink if it is more dense than the liquid
Ice
Ice will flat on water as it is less dense than water
Speed
The distance travelled per unit time is known as the speed
Metres per second (m/s)
Velocity
Velocity is the distance it travels per unit in time, in a given direction
Acceleration
The change in velocity per second.United is the metre per second per second.
