An opisometer can be used to measure short curved lines for example a road or a river on a map
Measuring length
A metre stick or ruler measures straight lines
Trundle wheel
Used to measure long curved lengths for example around a flower bed
Vernier callipers
To find the diameter or width of a solid object for example marble or Piece of piping
Measuring area
Area is how much space something covers
Mass
Mass is the amount of matter in an object
It is measured in the lab using an electronic balance
Measuring volume
Volume tells you how much space something takes up
Volume equals length by width by height
Volume of an irregular shaped object
A stone or a potato does not have straight edges , it is irregular
Float
An object will float in a liquid if it is less dense than the liquid
Sink

Ice
Ice will float on water as it is less dense than water
Speed
The distance travelled for using time
Velocity
Velocity of an object is the distance it travels per unit time in a given direction
Acceleration
Acceleration is measured in metre per second per second (m/s/s) or metre per second squared
Acceleration
The change in velocity per second is known as the acceleration of a body
Can be written as Ms-2 or m/s2
