Measurement Flashcards
Opisometer
An opisometer can be used to measure short curved lines for example a road or a river on a map
Measuring length
A metre stick or a ruler measures straight lines
Trundle wheel
Used to measure long curved lengths for example a flower bed
Vernier callipers
To find the diameter or with of a solid object
Measuring area
Area is how much space it covers
Length x width
Mass
Is they amount of matter in an object
It is measured in the lab by using an Electronic balance
Volume
Volume tells you how much space something takes up
Length x width x hight
Volume of an irregular object
Using a graduated cylinder and/or an overflow can
Float
An object will float if it is less dense and sink if more dense
Ice
Ice will float on water because it is less dense
Speed
The distance traveled per unit time(speed is distance divided by time)
Velocity
Is the distance an object travels per unit time in a given direction
Acceleration
The change in velocity per second is known the acceleration if a body
Acceleration is measured in metre per second per second (m/s/s)or metre per second squared
It can also be written as ms-2
