Yard
1-yard equals 3 feet or 36 inches. (A yardstick)
Mile
1 mile is 5,280 feet. (3 laps around our walking track)
foot
A foot is 12 inches. (The length of a piece of notebook paper)
ton
A ton is 2,000 pounds. (example: adult elephant)
Ounce
A small unit of liquid measurement. An ounce is about the amount of liquid in a medicine cup like those on cough medicine bottles.
Pint
16 ounces. The amount of liquid in the water bottles that come in big packages at the store
Quart
32 ounces of liquid. The large Gatorade bottle would be an example.
Gallon
128 ounces. 4 quarts. 8 pints. The large milk jug is an example.
Inch
A small unit of measurement. About the same length as the metal part on a yellow school pencil.
Pound
A pound is 16 ounces. Your social studies book weighs about a pound.
Area
The amount of space on a flat surface measured in square units.
Perimeter
The distance around a polygon.
Volume
The amount of space in a 3-dimensional object. Measured in cubic units.
Circumference
The distance around a circle.
Seconds
A unit of time equal to about the time it takes to snap you fingers.
Minute
60 seconds or 1/60th of an hour.
Hour
60 minutes or 1/24 of a day.
1 Day
24 hours or 1/365th of a year.
Year
365 days. It’s divided into 12 months.
Decade
10 years.
Century
100 years
Cup
A cup is 8 ounces. (Your milk/juice carton in the cafeteria is an example)
