Measles Flashcards
Measles is extremely contagious but also
LABILE
Measles is extremely contagious but also
LABILE
All members of the paramyxoviridae family initiate infection via wha tract
Respiratory
Morphology of measles
Pleommorphic
Genome of measles:
Enveloped, linear, negative-sense, non-segmented ssRNA
Is non-segmented, negates opportunity for frequent genetic reassortment , which makes the virus antigenically
STABLE
VIRAL RNA PROTEINS (3)
- NUCLEOPROTEIN (N)
- P
- L
P and L for viral polymerase activity: transcription and translation
VIRAL ENVELOPE PROTEINS (3)
- M (MATRIX)- VIRAL ENVELOPE (with spikes); Viral assembly
- HN OR G- ATTACHMENT
; Hemagglutination or Neuraminidase activity - Fusion (F)- Fusion and Hemolysin activity
Receptors used for infection:
CDD46 and CD150
CD46- present on all nucleated cells
CD150- (SLAM) Signaling Lymphocyte Activation MOLECULE
Infects E cells in what organ?
Trachea and Bronchi
Body organs migration of Measles
From local tissue in the lungs →
local lymph nodes → blood →more
long tissues -intestines and brain
Incubation Period
10-14
8-15
Prodromal period lasts for and is accompanied by the following symptoms:
FCCC
Fever
Cough
Coryza (stuffy face)
Conjunctivitis
and Koplik spot’s (pathognomonic)
Small, bluish-white, with cessations, found inside the cheeks (enanthem), and is pathognomonic for measles
Koplik’s Spots
Induces intranuclear inclusions which are multinucleated giant cells with viral antigens, it is formed as a result of the fusion protein in the spikes
