Vmc
The airspeed in which a multiengine aircraft should maintain if the critical engine fails
COMBAT
Crit engine inop & windmilling
Op engine at max T/O power
Most unfavorable weight
Bank no more than 5 degrees towards op
Aft CG (unfavorable
T/O Config but gear up
Standard atmospheric conditions at sea lvl
Engine Failure in Cruise (above Vmc)
- Increase power
- Identify inop engine
- Op engine - power as required
- Airspeed Vyse (88 KIAS)
- Fuel selectors ON
- Car heat controls ON
- Electric fuel pumps ON
- Mags ON
- Fuel quantity CHECK
- Oil temp and pressure CHECK
- (if no start) Engine secure checklist DO
Prop feathering for engine inop
- Right after T/O
- At low altitude/traffic pattern
- Inside the FAF on an IAP
Vmc Demo
- 4000’ @ 80 knots
- CFlaps open, landing config
- Throttle idle (inop engine), and full (op engine)
- Increase pitch
- Recover at first indication of lost control (Vsse or Vyse)
- Maintain heading and smoothly apply full throttle on op engine
- Resume Straight and level flight
Engine failure before rotation
- Throttle idle
- Maintain dir. control
- Brake as required
Engine failure after rotation
Gear down
- Throttle full forward
- Maintain dir. control
- Land straight ahead
- Brakes as required
Gear up/transit
- Mixture full rich
- Prop/throttle full forward
- Flaps and gear verified up
- Identify inop engine
- Inop engine throttle idle
- Inop engine prop feathered
Engine Failure in cruise (below Vmc)
- Throttle reduced to resist yaw
- Rudder applied as needed
- Pitch down (accelerate above Vmc)
- Power (op engine) - increase
Engine Securing
- Throttle retard
- Prop feathered
- Mixture idle cutoff
- Fuel selector OFF
- Carb heat OFF
- El. fuel pumps OFF
- Mags OFF
SE Go-Around
- Power up (op engine only), pitch up (Vxse), clean up (flaps out and gear up)
- Vyse above 50’
- Communicate with tower
- 300’ maintain 88 KIAS
- 800’ climb checklist
Emergency Descent
- Throttle idle
- Below Vlo, gear extended with 3 green
- Bank up to 45 degrees
- Maintain 135 knots
- Prop full forward
- Level off at desired altitude
- Increase throttle to cruise MP setting
- Clean up
