What do bedbug bites present with?

A
  • Bedbugs= Cimex lectularius and hemipterus
  • blood sucking parasites
  • moderate to severe pruritis
  • found in areas with no light - underside of mattresses. in shoes, luggage
  • linear pattern of 3 or 4 bites (aka breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Uncomplicated sigmoid volvulus

A
  • occurs when a loop of the intestine twists around itself and the mesentery that supports it, causing bowel obstruction
    -Detorsion
  • If no signs of perforation: IV hydration, followed by endoscopy (detorsion)
  • if signs of perforation, immediate surgical management.
  • Sx: abdominal swelling, vomiting, nausea, constipation/obstipation
    (same sx as acute distal intestinal obstruction)
  • Coffee bean sign on a plain x-ray of abdomen, convex curve

Erythema infectiosum (5th disease)

A
  • Characterised by fever followed by slapped cheek appearance and a full-body rash.
  • dx clinical
  • can use ELISA for immunoglobulin M and G antibodies against parvovirus B 19.
  • Prodrome of fever
  • possible assoc sx: sore throat, coryza, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
  • followed by rash after 2-5 days
