Mild regular contractions described as menstrual cramp.
Length of latent phase in prima and multi.
Primi- 6 hours
Multi- 4-5 hours
Maternal behavior in latent phase:
- talkative
- alert
- less anxious
- excited and happy
- in control
General nursing care in latent phase:
- rapport
- breathing technique
- provide needed info
- encourage participation
- facilitate position of comfort
- encourage ambulation
- offer ice chips
- voiding 1-2 hours
Discomfort present in latent phase:
- backache
- abdominal cramps
These will retard the progress of labor.
Full bladder and full bowel
Possible nursing diagnosis in latent phase:
- anxiety
- ineffective breathing pattern
- pain
- knowledge deficit
