> 30 y/o
Except when following trauma or derangement
Pain
Intermittent, referred
Located in low back and LE
No pain when in neutral posture
History
Hx of trauma
Onset gradual
Cause
Due to an adherent N root
Change in pain
Worse with Flex activities
Does not change with Ext activities
Examination
Pain felt during ROM into Flex
No worse after test movements into Flex
No effect with Ext movements
Intervention
Exercises into flexion
Shift
Most often, no shift present
BUT
Could be shifted toward side of pain
ROM into Flex & Ext
Limited ROM into Flex
No limitation into Ext
Pain with ROM into Flex & Ext
Pain will commence during movement with ROM into Flex
No pain with ROM into Ext
Pain should not be worse after completing either movement
Deviation with ROM into Flex
Most often, no deviation
Could deviated toward side of pain/limitation in ROM
Pain with repeated Flex & Ext
Pain does not increase or commence with repeated movement into Flex (which is painful on initial testing)
Pain will commence during movement into Flex
Should not be worse after completing either movement
ROM into SG
Most often, WNL
Could be limited with movement away from the side of pain
Pain with ROM into SG
Most often, no pain
BUT
Could commence with movement away from the side of back pain/shift
If pain occurs, will occur during movement
Pain shold not be worse after completing either movement
Pain with repeated SG
If there is pain with ROM into SG away from side of back pain/shift initially, does NOT increase with repeated testing
If there is pain, will occur during movement
If there is pain, should not be worse after completing either movement
