Leading cause of perinatal infections
Woman is usually asymptomatic
Greater risk to newborn if prolonged labor or premature ROM. Mother may require antibiotics during labor if she becomes symptomatic
Screened for GBS late in pregnancy (35-37 weeks)
Infant may require evaluation and antibiotics
