MCAT Math Flashcards
What does standard deviation measure?
Standard deviation measures how spread out a data set it.
- 2% of data points lie within ONE standard deviation of the mean.
- 4% of data points like within TWO standard deviations of the mean.
- 6% of data points like within THREE standard deviations of the mean.
Nx x Ny =
N(x+y)
N0 =
1
This is true for any number except 0.
00 is undefined.
Mx x Nx =
(M x N)x
Nx / Ny =
N(x-y)
(N/M)x =
Nx / Mx
(NX)Y =
N(X x Y)
N(1/2) =
sqrt(N)
N(-x) =
1 / Nx
sqrt(2) =
sqrt(3) =
sqrt(2) = 1.4
sqrt(3) = 1.7
3.4 x 10-5 + 9.1 x 10-6 =
34 x 10-6 + 9.1 x 10-6 =
To add or subtract in scientific notation, adjust to get the same exponent. Then add the coefficients and do not change exponent.
- 1 x 10-6 =
- 31 x 10-5
(2 x 10-3) x (7 x 10-5) =
2 x 7 x 10-3 x 10-5 =
14 x 10-8 =
1.4 x 10-7
(6 x 108) / (1.5 x 103) =
(6 / 1.5) x (108 / 103) =
4 x 105
V1 / T1 = V2 / T2
is what kind of relationship
Direct relationship. As one variable increases, the other increases as well.
This is Charles’s Law, which states that temperature and volume of a gas are directly related.
P1V1 = P2V2
What type of relationship is this?
Inverse relationship. As one variable increases, the other goes down.
This is Boyle’s Law. Pressure and Valume of a gas are inversely related.
