Exposition
a comprehensive description and explanation of an idea or theory.
Setting
the place or type of surroundings where something is positioned or where an event takes place.
Conflict
a serious disagreement or argument, typically a protracted one.
Internal Conflict
is a struggle within a person’s mind over a problem or question. That’s why it’s called internal.
External conflict
External conflict refers to conflict between the main character and any external force, such as a villain, government, or nature.
Rising Action
The rising action is the second of six essential plot elements, which comes right after the opening of a story, otherwise known as the exposition
Turning Point
a time at which a decisive change in a situation occurs, especially one with beneficial results.
Falling Action
Falling action is everything that takes place immediately after the climax.
Protagonist
the leading character or one of the major characters in a drama, movie, novel, or other fictional text.
Antagonist
a person who actively opposes or is hostile to someone or something; an adversary.
Climax
the most intense, exciting, or important point of something; a culmination or apex.
Tone
the general character or attitude of a place, piece of writing, situation, etc.
Theme
the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, a person’s thoughts, or an exhibition; a topic.
Mood
a temporary state of mind or feeling.
Author’s purpose
An author’s purpose is his reason for or intent in writing.
Inform
give (someone) facts or information; tell.
Entertain
provide (someone) with amusement or enjoyment.
Persuade
cause (someone) to do something through reasoning or argument.
Noun
a word (other than a pronoun) used to identify any of a class of people, places, or things (common noun), or to name a particular one of these (proper noun).
Verb
a word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence, and forming the main part of the predicate of a sentence, such as hear, become, happen.
Adjective
a word or phrase naming an attribute, added to or grammatically related to a noun to modify or describe it.
Adverb
a word or phrase that modifies or qualifies an adjective, verb, or other adverb or a word group, expressing a relation of place, time, circumstance, manner, cause, degree, etc. (e.g., gently, quite, then, there ).
Pronoun
a word that can function by itself as a noun phrase and that refers either to the participants in the discourse (e.g., I, you ) or to someone or something mentioned elsewhere in the discourse (e.g., she, it, this ).
Conjunction
a word used to connect clauses or sentences or to coordinate words in the same clause (e.g. and, but, if ).
