MC-130 Aero & Perf Flashcards
The effect of flaps on lift
For the same AoA, CL will increase with flaps extended
Refusal Speed
Maximum speed the aircraft can accelerate to on four engines and then stop within the runway available.
- 1-eng Fx
- 2-engs in rev (sym)
- 1-eng in GI
- Max antiskid braking
VMCA
Minimum speed at which directional control can be maintained.
- ATCS operational
- No. 1 eng Fx
- T/O power on remaining engs
- Max rudder deflection (150lbs)
- Zero rudder trim
- Min T/O weight
- 5 degrees Bank angle away from failed engine
CFL
Distance required to accelerate on all engs, experience an engine failure and then either continue the takeoff or stop.
Service & Cruise Ceiling
The altitude at max rate of climb at max continuous power and the best climb speed is:
- Service: 100 FPM
- Cruise: 300 FPM
Driftdown
Forced descent due to loss of engine(s)
- Maintain drift down speed until descent drops to 100 fpm
- maintain 100 fpm down to appropriate 3/2 engine service ceiling
Decent types
- Max Range: Flight idle, clean - L/D max
- Penetration: Max Range to 20K ft - 250kts to level
- Rapid Config: Flight idle, gear/100% flaps - 145kts to level
- Rapid-dive speed: Flight idle, clean - dive speed to level
Stalls & Blown Lift
Large disparity between Power-on & Power-off stalls due to blown lift.
In a power-on condition, 46% of the wing is immersed in the propeller slip stream - Blown area of wing
Doghouse Chart
- Max Instantaneous Turn - Max Sustained Turn - Max Sustainable Airspeed - Corner Speed - Minimum Airspeed
