Surrogacy
When a womens egg is artificially fertilised by another persons partner. It can also be when a women is implanted with an embryo.
IVF (in vitro fertilisation)
A scientific method of making women pregnant that does not involve sex; conception occurs by sperm and egg being placed in a tube. Literally means ‘in glass’. Usually more than one egg is fertilised for a greater chance of success. Success rates low, may undergo surgery several times.
AI (artificial insemination)
Sperm is medically inserted into the women’s vagina to assist pregnancy. Can be by donor (AID) or by husband (AIH).
Cloning
Production of genetically identical individuals.
Embryo Cloning
Removal of one or more cells from an embryo and encouraging the cells to develop into a separate embryo.
Therapeutic Cloning
Taking the DNA out of an embryo and replacing it with DNA from another individual. Embryo is killed in the process.
Sanctity of Life
Life is sacred because it is God-given.
