Matter WINK Flashcards
What is an Example of each state of matter?
Solid = Rock
Liquid = Water
Gas = Carbon Dioxide
What is matter?
Matter is anything that takes up space or has mass
What is the shape of each state?
Solid = Shape doesn’t change
Liquid = Shape changes based of it container
Gas = Shape changes to fill the the whole container
What is the Volume of each State of matter?
Solid = Definite Volume
Liquid = Definite Volume
Gas = No Definite Volume
What is the movement of the particles like in each state?
Solid = Tight together/Very close together
Liquid = Not super close together
Gas = Not close together/ lots of space.
What is a chemical reaction?
A chemical reaction is when 2 or more substances are mixed together and form a new substance/matter. This cant be undone!!!
What is an example of a chemical reaction?
An example in the real world is…
.Burning wood
.Baking soda and vinegar
.Slime
What is a physical change?
A physical change is the way something looks, but does not change the substance/matter.
What is an example of a physical change?
A physical change is…
.Crumbling paper
.Ripping paper
.Melting ice
What is conservation of matter?
It is a law of matter that means matter cant just appear of disappear.
How would you prove that there is conservation of matter?
Because you cant just make a random peanut appear of of no where.
What is the term of soluble?
A substance is soluble if it dissolves in certain fluids. The fluid [gas or liquid] (present in excess) is called the solvent and the substance dissolved in it is called the solute which together form a solution.
What did we learn from the penny experiment?
We learned that the salt and causes the dull bites of copper to dissolve off into small pieces into the mixture.
What did we learn when we combined baking soda and vinegar in a Ziploc bag?
We learned that the baking soda and a vinegar cause a chemical reaction
What happen to the gargoyle?
Step 1: Acid rain falls on the limestone gargoyle.
Step 2: Acid rain and the limestone reacts and the stone turns into a new substance, Carbon dioxide is formed.
Step 3: The carbon dioxide gas goes into the air.
