Matter - Vocab Set 2 Flashcards
Physical State
Classification of matter from a solid, a liquid or a gas
Solid
Particles are held together tightly; have definite shape and definite volume
Liquid
particles slide over one another; have no definite shape and no definite volume
Gas
particles move very fast and far apart; have no definite shape and no definite volume
Boiling Point
the temerature at which the subtance changes states from a liquid to gas (the freezing point of water is 100 degrees celsius)
Melting Point
The temperature at which the substance changes states from a solid to a liquid
freezing point
the temperature at which the substance changes states from a liquid to a solid (freezing point of water is 0 degrees celsius)
Condensation
physical change in matter from a gas to a liquid
Evaporation
physical change in matter from a liquid to a gas
Celsius Scale
measures temperatures in degrees celsius
Mixture
a combination of two or more substances where each keep their own properties and can easily be separated
Solution
mixture of one substance dissolved easily in another
Physical Change
make different without changing what the material is made of such as cutting, folding, melting
Constant
not changing; the same
