Matter Test Flashcards
What do you need to heat things up?
A Bunsen burner
What objects are used to measure the displacement of the water?
A beaker and a measuring cylinder.
What are the three states of matter?
Solids, liquids and gasses
How does gas move?
Really fast and random movements
How does a solid move?
It vibrates but only slightly and in a compacted space
Name this transition:
Liquid to solid
Freezing
Name this transition:
Gas to liquid
Condensation
Name this transition:
Liquid to gas
Evaporation
Name this transition:
Gas to solid
Sublimation
What does a transition graph look like?
Level, up, level, up ,level, up
How is pressure caused?
It is caused by all the tiny gas partials bumping into the inner sides of the container.
What is diffusion?
Diffusion is the natural movement of partials from and area of high concentration to low concentration.
How do you find the density of something?
Density= mass / volume
How do you find the volume of and object without a calculator?
You fill a displacement cup with water up to the top of the funnel. Then put the object into the cup. The amount of water that pours out into the beaker is the same as the volume of the object.
What do you call the can used to measure volume?
A displacement eureka
