matter revision Flashcards
what’s and electron ?
a stable sub atomic particle with a charge of negative electricity, found in all atoms
what’s a proton ?
a stable sub atomic particle located in the nucleus of every atoms , with a positive electric charge number of protons is = atomic number
what’s a neutron ?
sub atomic particle
same mass as a proton but without an electric charge, present in all atomic nucleus
what’s the nucleus ?
the central part on an atom which holds protons and neutrons
what’s the groups in a periodic table ?
groups in the periodic table are gollum’s that gown down they organise the elements with the same amount of valence electrons.
what’s periods in the periodic table ?
the columns that go across. they organise the elements into the same amount of electron shells.
what are the elements that have metal in the periodic table ?
the metals are
be - boran
si- silicone
non metals in the periodic table ?
H - Hydrogen He - Helium Li - Lithium Be - Beryllium C - Carbon N - Nitrogen O - Oxygen F - Fluorine Ne - Neon Na - Sodium Mg - Magnesium Al - Aluminum P - Phosphorus S - Sulfur Cl - Chlorine Ar - Argon K - Potassium Ca - Calcium
what’s noble gases ?
non reactive or inert gases
define element ?
An element is a pure substance that is made from a single type of atom.
define compound ?
A compound is two or more different elements chemically bonded together.
atomic number?
total number of protons in an atom.
mass number ?
the total number of protons and neutrons
what’s the cause of radioactivity ?
The cause of radioactivity when an atom wants to give away energy because it wants to shift from an unstable configuration to a more stable configuration therefore change in neutrons
Alpha radiation ?
A radioactive particle containing two protons and two neutrons.
