Matter Flashcards
Qualitative data
Not numerical; descriptive info that describes qualities or characteristics that are difficult to define or measure; qualities
Quantitative Data
numerical info that can be measured or counted (quantity)
Homogenous Mixture
when all the substances are evenly disrupted / dissolved though out the mixture
not visible
Gas
a form of matter that does not have a definite shape or volume.
Controlled Variables
the variables that you keep the same constant
independent
the variable that you are testing (the one that changes) in a scientific experiment
Liquid
matter with a definite volume but no definite shape.
mixture
when two or more substances combine but retain their own properties.
heterogeneous mixture
made of two or more substances that are combined (mixed) together but not dissolved together.
solids
matter with a definite shape and volume that is made of vibrating particles.
solute
the substance that dissolves to form a solution . For example: Salt + water= saltwater
solvent
the substance things dissolve into. For example: Salt + water= saltwater
dependent variable
the variable that you are measuring in a scientific experiment.
the variable that you are measuring in a scientific experiment.
Evaporation
Process of water turning into vapor
Condensation
Process of water vapor turning into liquid
