Matter Flashcards
Anything that occupies space (volume) and has mass.
Matter
A single kind of matter that cannot be separated into other kinds of matter by any physical means.
Pure substance.
The physical combination of two or more substances in which the identities are retained and are mixed in the form of solutions, suspensions and colloids.
Mixture
It is a combination of two or more elements.
Compounds
This is the building blocks of matter.
Elements
A mixture in which the composition is uniform throughout the mixture.
Uniformly dissolved.
Homogeneous
It is a mixture with a non-uniform composition. Colloids and suspensions are its types.
Heterogeneous
It is a type of homogeneous mixture. It is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances in relative amounts that is uniformly dissolved.
Solutions.
This type of mixture cannot be removed by filtration.
Solutions.
In this type of heterogeneous mixture, particles are sufficiently large for sedimentation.
Suspension
It is homogeneous to the naked eye, but heterogeneous when using light or a microscope. It is also smaller than solutions, but bigger than suspensions.
Colliod
This type of compound is sour in taste. It has a pH level less than 7.
Acid
It is the combination of acid and base.
Salt
It is bitter in taste, and is slippery. It turns red to blue.
Base
This type of element is a good conductor of heat and electricity. It is also luster, malleable, and ductile.
