Matter Flashcards
Chemical change
A change in matter which one or new substances is made
Clues that a chemical change has happened
Color change Odor (smell) change Gas produced (bubbles) Temperature change Texture change
Physical change
A change in matter where there is no new substance is produced
Definitive indicator
The presence of a new kind of matter.
shows us that there has been a chemical reaction
Atom
The smallest partial of an element that remains that element
Molecules
A group of two or more atoms bonded together
Particle
A tiny part of matter usually an atom or a molicule
Matter
Matter has volume (takes space) and mass( the amount of material)
Conduction
Energy is transferred by fast moving particles hitting the slower moving particles
Condensation
Water vapor gas slows down to overcome their spread to become liquid
Evaporation
Liquid particles gain energy and break away from one another to become gas
Melting
Or dilly arrangement (in a solid) collapse become undo and particles become liquid
Freezing
Particles slow down enough to be fitting position not moving around
Solid
Particles and very attracted for each other
Vibrates
Stay in fixed position keep their shape
Liquid
Attraction and very attracted for each other
Randomly arranged every which way
Slightly further apart
Take a snap of container
Gas
Files and takes the shape of their container
Move freely past each other
Particles however very weak attraction
Plate tectonics
A geological theory that states that pieces of the earths crust are in constant slow motion
Continental Drift
Means moving continents as the continents drift the climate may change example ani I also in the south are almost identical to those found in Africa because the continents were once connected
Sedimentry
When thousands of years of squeezing rocks are squeezed and created new rocks
Metamorphic
Metamorphic is when the structure of the rock changes into another rock
Igneous
When lava falls out the side of a volcano and Cooke’s to create a new rock
