Pythagoras
This theory is saying that two sides of the triangle squared and either added together or subtracted make the other side of the square.
Hypotenuse
This is the longest side on a triangle.
Theory for Hypotenuse
a2 + b2 = c2 - this is the equation that you use. c2 being the hypotenuse. Basically what it means is that you will be given two numbers, they will then be your a and b you square them, add them together, and then you find the square root of that sum. That then is your answer.
Theory for any other side of the triangle
The only difference between the two occasions is that for the hypotenuse you add the two numbers that have been squared. For any other side of the triangle you then subtract it. So the sum would look like a2 - b2 = c2. Then you do everything else the same.
Remember when finding any other side of the shape
When you are doing the subtraction, make sure the biggest side is the a2 so that you don’t go into negative numbers and end up with an answer that is wrong.
