The decimal point is from the decimal (comma, point). In order to round to three decimal places for example when the value is 123.45689, the answer would be 123.457.

A
The significant figures of a number are digits that carry meaning contributing to its measurement resolution. This includes all digits except: All leading zeros.
E.g. if a question asks to give the value to 3 significant figures of 0.023458, the answer would be 0.0235.
E.g. 3 significant figures of a value 123.45987 = 123
