Maths iGCSE Flashcards
What’re prime factors?
Example: 12 = 2^2 x 3
What’s Least Common Multiple (LCM)?
Smallest common multiple
What’s Highest Common Factor (HCF)?
Largest common factor
How do you estimate calculations?
Rounding each number, and then calculating it. This will give an approximation (≈)
What’re upper & lower bounds?
Upper Bound: Maximum value that a rounded value can be.
Lower Bound: Minimum value that a rounded value can be.
Formula for compound growth?
Pₙ = P₀ x (1 + r/100)ⁿ
Formula for compound decay?
Pₙ = P₀ x (1 - r/100)ⁿ
What’s factorising?
Opposite of expanding brackets. Making brackets
What’s an identity?
Are like equations, but always true whatever x is.
Equation of a circle?
Radius is r
Centre (a,b)
(x-a)² + (y-b)² = r²
How do you reflect in the x-axis?
y = -f(x)
How do you reflect in the y-axis?
y = f(-x)
What’s intersection symbol?
∩
What’s union symbol?
∪
What’s the complement of A?
A’
What’s the sum of interior angles?
S = (n - 2) x 180º
How is exterior angle calculated?
Exterior angle = 360º / n
What’s a chord?
Line between 2 points in a circle
What do you have to keep in mind about bearing?
Always measured clockwise from North.
What’s the sine rule?
(sin A / a) = (sin B / b) = (sin C / c)
What’s the cosine rule?
a² = b² + c² - 2bc CosA
What’s the area of a triangle (trigonometry)?
Area = 0.5ab sin C
