Q

How would you calculate the following statement?
The maximum permittable voltage drop for a lighting circuit is 3% of the supply voltage.
Assuming that supply voltage is 230V, how would you calculate the total permissable voltage drop?

A
  1. Turn 3% into a decimal: 0.03
  2. Multiply this decimal by the larger number: 0.03 x 230 = 6.9
  3. Add the voltage: 6.9V

Q

What does the pythagorean theorum state?

A

For all right angled triangles, the square of the hypotenuse (longest side) is equal in area to the sum of the squares of the other two sides:
C² = A² + B²

Q

What is the key rule to remember when transposing formulae?

A

You must do the same thing to both sides of the equation:
* Addition
* Subtraction
* Multiplication
* Division
* Functions (squares & reciprocals)

Q

What is the key objective when transposing one letter or number across the equals sign of an equation?

A

You are trying to get the letter or number you want to get across the equals sign to get to zero.
This will remove it from that side of the equation.

You must do the opposite of what it states on any given side, for eg. if something is divided in the initial equation, you must multiply it to get it across the line.
