Data
Data is pieces of factual information formatted in a particular way.
Hyposthesis
- A statement that helps to answer a question- Must be written do the answer is true or false- When you write a hypothesis the words must have a clear meaning- Always make statements about things that can be measured.
Data handling cycle
- pose a question and state a hypothesis- Decide what data is needed and collect it- Organise and analyse the data- Interpret the results and draw conclusions
Primary Data
This you collect yourself, it can be collected using a questionnaire or using an experiment
Secondary Data
This is information that has already been collected, it can be found in books, magazines, the internet and many other sources.
Quantitative data
data that have numerical values such as shoe size or temperature
Qualitative data
data that can only be described in words and is organised in to categories
Quantitative Discrete and continuous
- Discrete has certain values usually whole numbers and fractions- continuous can take an value in a range and be measured. (tree size)
Grouped Data
a term for data analysis. Data that is grouped for example in a frequency table.
Class intervals
These are intervals that break up and catagorize groups
Two way Tables
Shows how particular data is related
A Survey
A survey is used to collect primary data
A Questionnaire
A questionnaire is a form that people fill in, on the form are questions.
Response
Ask for a response, yes or no.
Leading question
Encouraging a specific answer
