Natural numbers/counting numbers
basic numbers starting at 1, e.g. 1,2,3, etc.
Whole numbers -
basic numbers starting a 0, e.g. 0, 1, 2, 3, etc.
Integers
basic numbers including 0 and the negative numbers, e.g. -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3
Rational numbers
basic numbers including 0, the negative numbers, and fractions or decimals can be written as a fraction
Irrational numbers
numbers that can’t be described as fractions, e.g. the decimals go on forever
Real numbers
natural, whole, integers, rational, irrational
quantity
an amount, number or measurement (how many or how much)
non standard units
compare a quantity to another object. eg- spoonful, handful, steps
fraction=ratio=division

inequality
the relationship between two values that are different.

distance from zero on the number line. distance is always positive. |X| or |3|

what we use when we don’t know what a number is, but we do know how it relates to something else, e.g. 4 + X = 7 these problems have variables usually letters.
