Remainder
The amount left over when one number is divided by another.
Sum
The answer to an addition problem.
Difference
The answer to a subtraction problem.
Quotient
The answer to a division problem.
Product
The answer to a multiplication problem.
Equation
A mathematical sentence that contains an equal sign.
Times
Multiplication
Times as many
Multiply as many times
Whole Number
Any positive number that does not include a fractional or decimal part.
Prime Number
A whole number that has exactly two factors, 1 and itself.
Composite Number
A number with more than two factors.
Factor
A number that is multiplied by another number to find a product.
Factor Pair
Two whole numbers that are multiplied to get a product.
Multiple
The product of a whole number and any other whole number.
Pattern
Things that repeat in a logical way. Example: 1 3 2 1 3 2
Nearest Ten
When rounding you look at the ones place to let you know where to round this place value.
Nearest Hundred
When rounding you look at the tens place to let you know where to round this place value.
Nearest Thousand
When rounding you look at the hundreds place to let you know where to round this place value.
Nearest Ten Thousand
When rounding you look at the thousands place to let you know where to round this place value.
Nearest Hundred Thousand
When rounding you look at the ten thousands place to let you know where to round this place value.
Ones
The numbers in the range of 0-9. It is the place value of a number.
Tens
The second digit in a whole number.
Hundred
The third digit in a whole number.
Thousand
The fourth digit in a whole number
Ten Thousand
The fifth digit in a whole number.
Hundred Thousand
The sixth digit in a whole number.
Million
The seventh digit in a whole number
Expression
A mathematical phrase that does not contain an equal sign.
Equal
Having the same value.
Partial Product
A method of multiplying in which the ones, tens, hundreds, and so on are multiplied separately and then the products are added together.
Partial Quotient
A method of dividing in which multiples of the divisor are subtracted from the dividend and then the quotients are added togehter
Fraction
Part of a whole.
Equivalent
Equal in value or amount
Divide
Splitting a number into equal parts.
Equal to
Having the same value.
Greater Than
Used to compare two numbers when the first number is larger than the second number.
Less Than
Used to compare two numbers when the first number is smaller than the second number.
Digits
A digit is any one of these symbols: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. Numbers can have one or more digits.
Numerator
The top number in a fraction that represents the parts out of the whole.
Denominator
The bottom number in a fraction. The number of equal parts that make one whole unit.
Model
A visual representation.
Decimal
A number with one or more digits to the right of the decimal point.
Kilometer (km)
Unit of measurement in the metric system; 1000 meters
Meter (m)
unit of measurement in the metric system; 100 centimeters
Centimeter (cm)
unit of measurement in the metric system; one-hundredth of a meter
Kilogram (kg)
A metric unit of mass equal to 1000 grams.
Gram (g)
The standard unit of mass in the metric system. 1,000 grams = 1 kilogram
Liter (L)
The basic unit of capacity in the metric system.
1 liter = 1,000 milliliters.
Milliliters (mL)
The unit used to measure the volume of a liquid

Distance between two points
Mass
The amount of matter in an object.
Volume
The amount of space an object takes up
Number Line
a line on which numbers are marked at intervals
Interval
The distance between two numbers on the scale of a graph
Unit Fraction
a fraction with a numerator of 1
Protractor
A tool used to measure and draw angles.
Angle
A figure formed by two rays with a common endpoint
Area
The number of square units required to cover a surface.
Perimeter
The distance around a figure
Square Unit
A unit for measuring area
Line Plot
a graph that shows the frequency of data along a number line
Data Set
a collection of measurements or observations
Ray
a part of a line that starts at an endpoint and extends forever in one direction
Intersect
To cross
one-degree angle
An angle with a measure of 1 degree; 360 degrees = full circle
Vertex
A point where two or more line segments meet. (A corner)
Point
a point is a location represented by a dot
Line
a straight figure that extends endlessly in both directions
Line Segment
part of a line with two endpoints
Parallel Lines
lines that never intersect
Perpendicular Lines
Two lines that intersect to form right angles
Right Angle
90 degrees
Obtuse Angle
An angle between 90 and 180 degrees
Acute Angle
an angle that measures less than 90 degrees
Sides
Shapes are made of line segments. These line segments are called sides.
Polygon
A closed plane figure made up of line segments
Triangle
A polygon with three sides.
Quadrilater
a polygon with four sides
Pentagon
a polygon with 5 sides
Hexagon
a polygon with 6 sides
Octogon
a polygon with 8 sides
Right Triangle
A triangle that has a 90 degree angle.
Line of Symmetry
A line that divides a figure into two congruent halves that are mirror images of each other.
