Math vocab (geometry) Flashcards
parallel lines
straight lines that do not intersect at any point
perpendicular lines
two straight lines joined to a common point making a 90 ∘ angle with each other
vertical angles
angles opposite each other
adjacent angle
two angles that are side by side and share a common vertex and a common side
complimentary angle
two angles whose sum is 90 degrees (when added together they make 90)
supplementary angle
two angles whose sum is 180 degrees (when added together they make 180)
90 degree angle
an L (half)
180 degree angle
a straight angle. The sides of the angle are opposite to each other and they make a straight angle on a straight line through the vertex
congruent angle
angles that are the same degree (i.e. DGE is a 50 degree angle and so is BGA which means they’re congruent)
obtuse angle
an angle which is greater than 90° and less than 180°
straight angle
an angle of 180°
right angle
an angle of 90°
transversal
(of a line) intersecting a system of lines
corresponding angles
on the same side of the transversal and in the same location at each intersection
alternate interior angles
inside the “equal” and not on the same side of the transversal
