fraction
Represents a part of a whole
improper fraction
a fraction where the numerator id greater than the denominator. It means that we have more than one whole represented
mixed number
a whole number and a fraction written together
denominator
the bottom in a fraction tells you how many parts the whole has been divided into
numerator
the top number in a fraction. it tells you how many parts you have out of a whole
additive inverse
any number plus its opposite or inverse is equal to 0
integer
the set of whole numbers and their opposites, this includes both positive and negative whole numbers

an answer that is reasonable but not exact
associative property
states that the groupings of values can be changed and not affect the sum or difference
commutative property
the order of the numbers being added can be changed and not affect the sum or difference

any number and zero is still that original number

the number being divided in a division problem. it is often the first number in a problem written horizontally
divisor
the number doing the dividing in a division problem
leading digits
the first digits in a decimal -often the whole number part of the decimal
decimal
a part of a whole. the numbers to the left of the decimal point represent whole quantities. the numbers to the right of the decimal point represent parts
