Q

What is (2 x square root of 2) x (square root of 6)?

A
If you have two squared roots that are multiplied, then multiply them.
So:
2 x 6 = 12
2 x square root of 12
which can then be simplified down.
since 3 x 4 = 12 and 4 can be squared it goes
2 x square root of 3 square root of 4
square root of 4 is two
2 x 2 = 4
so it is then 4 x square root of 3.

Q

Can you add two square roots?

A

Yes, if the number being squared is the same.
Ex:
2(square root 3) + 8(square root 3) = 10(square root 3)

Q

The ratio of 1/2 to 3/5 is the same as which of the following ratios?

A

(1/2) / (3/5) = 5/6

so the ratio of 1/2 to 3/5 is the same as 5 to 6.

Q

If a number is raised to a negative power, what does that mean?
ex: 8 ^ -3

A

When a number is raised to the negative power, then it turns into a fraction.
ex: 8^3 = (1/8^3) = 1/512

Q

If given two sides of a triangle, how do you find the third lenght?

A
The length of the third side of a triangle must be between the positive difference and the sum of the other two sides.
ex: l=12 l=18 l=?
12+18=30
18-12=6
18+12+6=36
18+12+30=60
so 36

Q
The average of all consecutive integers from a to b inclusive is 39. Which of the following could be a and b?
4 and 74
19 and 39
25 and 53
29 and 59
33 and 45
A
39x2 = 78
so
4+74=78
19+39=58
25+53=78
29+59=88
33+45=78

so the answer is 4 and 74, 25 and 53, 33 and 45

17
Q

how many degrees does a circle have?

A

360 degress

18
Q

How many degrees does a triangle have?

A

180 degrees

19
Q

What is a defining characteristic of a right triangle?

A

A right triangle always has one angle equal to 90 degrees

20
Q

A rectangle is what?

A
  • A rectangle is a four sided shape with four right angles (90degrees)
  • The four angles add up to a total of 360 degrees
21
Q

An important rule about triangles is that the diagonals or a rectangle are what?

A

The diagonals of a triangle are equal.

A diagonal always divides a rectangle exactly in half and creates two equal right triangles.

22
Q

How many degrees are in a square?

A

360 degrees

23
Q

How do you find the circumference of a circle?

A

C = 2 X pie X r

So if the circumference of the circle is 6pie(squareroot of2) then

  • 2pier = 6pie(squarerootof 2)
  • 2r = 6(squareroot2)
  • r = 3(squareroot2)
24
Q

How do you find the area of a square?

A

Length x Width

25
Q

Slope = rise/ run which means what?

A
rise = vertical
run = horizontal
26
Q

The surface area of a cube with side length (x+4) is 294. What is the value of x?

A
Since a cube has six faces, 294/6 = 49
area of a square = s^2
since the s, side, is given
- (x+4)^2 = 49
- solve for x
- x = 3
27
Q

What is the combined work formula?

A

1/a + 1/b = 1/t t=time
ex:
Pipe A can fill a tank in 3 hours. If Pipe B can fill the same tank in 2 hours, how many minutes will it take both pipes to fill 2/3 of the tank?

  • 1/3 + 1/2 = 1/t
  • 2/6 + 3/6 = 1/t
  • 5/6 = 1/t
  • 6/5 hours = 1 full tank
  • figure out 2/3 tank
  • 6/5 X 2/3 = 12/15 simplify = 4/5 hours
  • convert to minutes
  • 4/5(60) = 48 minutes to fill 2/3 truck togther.
28
Q

Law of exponents say that (ab)^n =?

A

The Law of exponents says that (ab)^n = a^n x b^n
