Math in book Flashcards
How do you find the area of a circle?
A = pie x r(squared)
How do you find the area of a triangle?
Area of a triangle = 1/2 X base X height
How do you find the perimeter of a parallelogram?
The perimeter of a parallelogram is the sum of the lengths of all four of its sides. A parallelogram has two pairs of equal opposite sides.
Anything to the zero power equals what? ex: 5^0 =?
Anything to the zero equals 1.
5^0 = 1
15^0 = 1
-25^0 = 1
What is the sixth term in the sequence in which the nth term is n(n-1)^2
6(6-1)^2
6(5)^2
6(25)
=150
What is (2 x square root of 2) x (square root of 6)?
If you have two squared roots that are multiplied, then multiply them. So: 2 x 6 = 12 2 x square root of 12 which can then be simplified down. since 3 x 4 = 12 and 4 can be squared it goes 2 x square root of 3 square root of 4 square root of 4 is two 2 x 2 = 4 so it is then 4 x square root of 3.
Can you add two square roots?
Yes, if the number being squared is the same.
Ex:
2(square root 3) + 8(square root 3) = 10(square root 3)
What does the sum of the angles in a triangle equal out to?
all angles in a triangle = 180 degrees
What is an equilateral traingle?
An equilateral triangle has three equal angles.
When no number is given in a question, what number should you use to verify your answer?
always use 100 if no number is given.
In a regular polygon with n sides, the formula for the sum of the interior angles is what?
(n-2) x 180.
The ratio of 1/2 to 3/5 is the same as which of the following ratios?
(1/2) / (3/5) = 5/6
so the ratio of 1/2 to 3/5 is the same as 5 to 6.
If a number is raised to a negative power, what does that mean?
ex: 8 ^ -3
When a number is raised to the negative power, then it turns into a fraction.
ex: 8^3 = (1/8^3) = 1/512
If given two sides of a triangle, how do you find the third lenght?
The length of the third side of a triangle must be between the positive difference and the sum of the other two sides. ex: l=12 l=18 l=? 12+18=30 18-12=6 18+12+6=36 18+12+30=60 so 36
How do you find the average of a group of consecutive integers?
The average of a group of consecutive integers is equal to the average of the smallest and largest integers.
